What women don’t know (but think they do) can really hurt them.

Sex, desire, intimacy, connection, pleasure…most of us really enjoy it and always seem to want to learn how to make it better – but how about safer? Practicing safe sex with partners goes without saying but what we want to talk about with our readers is being safer in ways that have a different impact on the body. Time and again, women consider a variety of approaches to spice up or enhance their sexual experience…toys, films, costumes and products, including massage oils, aphrodisiacs and lubricants, those fun potions we keep in our trusty “goody drawers.” For some women, choices are made by determining what will make them blush the least, typically selecting a bottle of personal lubricant from the drug store shelves. But what we do we really know about the potion inside the bottle?

It seems pretty harmless…pick a bottle, break it out when needed and let the games begin – pleasure at our fingertips (sometimes, literally). Lubricant, after all, is not like buying ice cream at the grocery store. We don’t usually read the label to see if it includes undesired ingredients because it’s not a food item but it is being applied to rather delicate areas of our body and it is being absorbed into the skin. The same reasons we started combing through ingredients on the foods we consider purchasing is exactly why we should be reading the labels on the personal lube we pick up.

Here’s the wake-up call… many leading lubricants found in drug stores contain the same ingredients found in antifreeze, food preservatives and cleaning solutions like harsh oven cleaner. It’s a little hard to fathom but it’s true. Obviously these are not just undesired ingredients to absorb into the body but are actually bad for a woman’s body (and not too great for the environment either). We know the human body is made up of chemical compounds (hello, H20!) but methylparaben, found in some fo the biggest names in intimate moisturizers, has been shown to have some serious health dangers. Methylparaben is not found in Aloe Cadabra intimate moisturizer. As it is, between work and the pressures of everyday life, the last thing a woman needs is more chemicals throwing off her chemistry.

So, before making any decision on something that goes in your body or on your body the best thing you can do is to arm yourself accordingly. Learn more regarding the truth about lubes and make informed decisions that are really right for you.

Some food for thought…should intimacy products clearly disclose ingredients or have warning labels on them? Let us know what you think.

Pass any newsstand or stand in line at the grocery store and jumping out at you from the sea of monthly beauty, fashion, and lifestyle magazine covers will be at least one glossy with the the content teaser Beauty At Every Age. A wealth of tips, tricks and layouts showing women everywhere, everything from the 20-year-olds, “how to dress more sophisticated” to the 60’s plus set on “how to rock their Not My Daughter’s Jeans”– to the 30-year-olds “correct sun damage with at-home glycolic peels” to the 40-year-olds garnering education on “new, painless spider vein therapy.” It’s truly fantastic; there’s a treasure trove of constant, vital information at our finger tips for women of any age.

Even the national morning shows are getting in the act; recently the 4th hour of the Today Show dedicated the hour to “ageless beauty” – the charming, chardonnay slingin’ dynamic duo, Kathie Lee and Hoda, and bevy of beauty and wellness experts spent the hour wearing their ages, and in some cases, their weight, literally on their sleeves –all demonstrating that regardless of age, there is plenty of expert advice and no reason women should look or feel anything less than beautiful, healthy, fit and happy.

Hear! Hear! But in our quest for good health and beauty at any age, aren’t we missing something? How about the state and fate of our sexual health — or vaginal health? Where are the sound advice and good examples here? Sex, pleasure, desire… vaginal dryness – it happens – and we’re talking more than menopause here.

The question is why vaginal dryness has to be a conversation killer when there are plenty of explanations and solutions to go around — if only the beauty and wellness experts we trust so much will just dip their toes in the water and talk about it…

17% of women 18 to 50 experience occasional dryness; 39% of women experience it up to three months after giving birth. Women’s bodies go through changes all the time…the environment, antibiotics and other medications, stress, giving birth –these are just a few of the reasons physical pleasure gets derailed by dryness and discomfort during intimacy. Some women’s answer to this issue is silence and they are often not even aware of the external reason that may be causing herto not feel so beautiful internally.

It’s time the mainstream sexual health conversation not just starts but really kicks into high gear. Journalists we respect and follow are discussing and engaging us in women’s issues that get very little attention beyond a closed doctor’s office door. Now this will contribute to our ongoing pursuit of external and internal beauty–and wellness–for all ages.

What do you think about this? What about your sexual health and “internal beauty” is on your mind?

I wanted you to get a long overdue extremely high thumbs up on the lube. I have been using a lube suggested by the maker of my pump for many years. Your lube feels incredibly better, feels like love in fact. Because of the way it feels, it enhances every part of love making. Also as a natural product, my partner is not as reluctant in tasting it. You’ve got a customer for life.

We recently received the question, why include include Vanilla Essential Oil in the Natural Aloe scented product? We thought others might wonder why as well!

Many people who smell raw aloe don’t enjoy the smell of it. We put an extremely small amount, less than .005% of pure vanilla essential oil in the product to balance the scent so it becomes, essentially, unscented. Our formulation experts have indicated to us that this should have no negative impact to the human body. Our other scents, Tahitian Vanilla and French Lavender, are designed to provide sensory experiences (smells) that enhance the intimate experience, should people enjoy that.

Here are a few comments that a blogger, True Pleasures, posted about Aloe Cadabra. Thank you True Pleasures, for sharing your thoughts!

Consistency: Aloe Cadabra is basically a gel when you squeeze it out. However, when it warms to body temperature, the consistency will loosen up. It’s very slick and takes quite a while for it to rub into my skin. I’ve had no issues with it gumming up or getting sticky, it just soaks right in.

Duration: Aloe Cadabra has lasted long enough for each one of our uses of it. I have yet to have any issues with it drying out no matter how long our sessions have lasted. If you find that it starts to dry up, you can reactivate it with a wet kiss or a bit of water, therefore saving you lubricant and money.

Packaging: The tube that the Aloe Cadabra comes in is very discreet. It doesn’t say anything anywhere about the contents being a personal lubricant. The only thing printed on the bottle is the picture and “ALOE CADABRA, Natural Aloe”. There is also a SELL BY date sticker on the back. I do like the design of the bottle. It has a flip cap and soft body for easy dispensing, and the upside-down storage method ensures you get to use every drop of it.

Expiration Date: Yes! There is a SELL BY date on the package and the bottle! Very few lubricant companies actually do that. Thank you!

The ingredient list is safe, it has great slip, it’s very moisturizing, and it doesn’t dry out and get gummy.

My hubby and I use a major brand condom and hate the sticky mess it makes and have even opted for other lubrication options in hopes of finding something less messy and gross. We were both pleased when we tried out this product. Aloe Cadabra left me soft, smooth, fresh and not wanting to run to the bathroom to hose off afterwards! Come on ladies, we’ve all been there, right? I felt confident during our encounters and very happy afterwards. Also, I loved the fact that it is 95% organic and I’m not putting horrible chemicals in my body. One active ingredient in 2 major lubricants, but not in Aloe Cadabra is Propylene Glycol, which is a thick chemical used in antifreeze, ANTIFREEZE! Why would you want that in your body?

Jammie from The Neat Things In Life blog has not had a good experience with the several brands of lubricants she’s tried:

When I think about personal lubricants, I think of a big sticky mess. I personally am not a big fan of lubricants when it comes to alone time with my husband. Something about the stickiness turns me off.

It wasn’t long ago when it was brought to my attention about all the chemicals put into lubricants. All I have to say is eek! I’ve just found out a lot of these personal lubes contain some of the same ingredients found in antifreeze, cleaning solutions and food preservatives! Are you kidding me? I do not want anything that goes into my car to keep it at a safe temperature touching me in my sensitive area!

But after trying Aloe Cadabra:

I was very impressed that my female parts were not sticking together during fun time. How can I explain this, I felt as though Aloe Cadabra was a booster to help my body’s natural lubricants kick into play. Once it had done its job, it absorbed into my body. This makes clean up after the fact so much easier! It also put my mind to ease and my attention was all put on my husband, instead of worrying about what the sticky mess was getting on.

What was your experience of moving from other lubricants to organic Aloe Cadabra?

We also get tickled when leaders in any of those industries take notice of us, so you can imagine how turned on we are about being featured – all by ourselves – by none other than ELLE Magazine!!

ELLE is only THE international beauty, culture, and fashion resource, and their May 10 post “Organic Products Get Really Intimate” puts AC right out in front of the organic personal products trend.

Aloe Cadabra is the world’s first totally plant-based, organic personal lubricant. And by personal lubricant, we don’t mean your hands (although the company also thinks it makes a terrific hand cream)… go natural even while you’re in the buff.

If YOU love Aloe Cadabra (and we know you do), check out the ELLE article and make a Comment about why that is!
